a call from a regular client at the beginning of the year, asking if I would work with one of their partners, in New Orleans, in 10 days time, seemed like a fabulous, if last minute opportunity. Having jumped at the chance and agreed, I was then told, "By the way, day one is a Make up Artist Battleground -i.e. a competition, live on stage!!. With 10 days to plan a design, demonstrating the Moon Creations cosmetics range, using the theme "Space", the pressure was on. This was further compounded by the fact that I had planned a visit to my family abroad in the time between then and the competition!. This family trip was then filled with materials and fabrics being purchased and the sewing machine being red hot with use. Paints and pencils were out on the plane, wigs and head-dresses were made and packed and somehow in the 10 days I was off to compete!
On the morning of the competition, the nerves really set in but with support from Charlie, model and the Team at Moon and Smiffys, the creation came together. Watching the other 3 incredible talented artists producing beautiful blends and perfect illustrations, was truly terrifying. After 3 long hours, the design began to come together in the final hour and then it was left to the judging.
This was such an amazing experience and despite the stress and nerves, it was something I would never change (although if I were to do it again, I would try and get some better photographs!!) To top an already fantastic experience, when the results were announced there was no one more surprised that me that we had won!!! meaning that Moon Creations and myself went home with the Artist Battleground trophy!
Throughout the rest of the week myself and Charlie demonstrated the full range of the Moon Creations products, creating a different look each day, answering questions and spreading the word about the brand.
